This is the department blog of Film, Theatre and Television at the University of Reading. It is intended as a space for staff to ponder, discuss and react to contemporary cultural issues and events. It is also a space for us to kick around research ideas and talk about pedagogical issues.

Tom Brown is a lecturer in film. His research interests include cinematic narration, the representation of history and the theorisation of film spectacle.
Alison Butler is a senior lecturer in film. Her research interests include alternative and artist’s film, cinematic time and space, and women’s cinema.
John Gibbs is a senior lecturer in film. His research interests include mise-en-scène and other aspects of film style and its interpretation.
Simone Knox is a lecturer in television. Her research interests include film and television aesthetics and medium specificity, audio-visual translation, representations of the body, and postmodernism.
Lisa Purse is a lecturer in film. Her research interests include the relationships between aesthetics and the politics of representation in cinema
Ashley Thorpe is a lecturer in theatre. His research interests include Chinese theatre, Japanese Noh theatre and the use of theatre performance to explore constructions of diasporic identity
Faye Woods is a lecturer in television. Her research interests include music in film and television, television industries and youth representations in film and television.
