Architecture on TV; a ‘live annotation’

Professor Jonathan Bignell was recently invited to present and analyse a television broadcast of Open University course A305, ‘History of Architecture and Design’ (watch video). In the episode “An Architect At Work,” Geoffrey Baker presents the process of design through his own house, revealing the references that he used, and the decisions and compromises he had to make along the way. Annotating the episode, Jonathan considers the television form rather than the architectural content, asking questions about tone, rhetoric and address. This video is presented in the context of the exhibition “The University is Now on Air: Broadcasting Modern Architecture,” organised by the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal.canadian-center-for-architecture
